Loved everything about this — the photos, your summer aims, your practicing of giving kids independence. I’m saving the pool bags to purchase next summer. My kids are 3 and 5 and for the first summer going to the pool isn’t pure exhaustion with little fun for me! Makes me even more excited for next summer. We are also loving Magic Treehouse (our first chapter book series), and my husband and I are also talking about how to give independence after reading Anxious Generation. I’m Team Summer over here too!
Team summer forever! It’s so great when all those hard years of doing the hard work of the pool with little kids starts to pay off!!
So much to think about with the Anxious Generation—it’s a book I’m going to be referencing a lot, I think! I read Free Range Kids before having kids, and really appreciated those ideas, but reading Anxious Gen made me realize I haven’t always put them into practice well!
I love these photos, Laura! And I definitely want to read The Anxious Generation, too. I'm going to check out that post you linked to on summer camp now. My oldest went to a morning VBS by himself this week (he normally does stuff with his brother) and I was amazed at how much more confident he seemed after the experience!!
Creativity, reading, and independence!! I LOVE all of this!!! Also, I don't know why I never thought to do audiobooks in the car for my kids. We'll be trying this on an upcoming road trip! And we are also the hugest fans of Magic Treehouse! Have you checked out their Fact Tracker books? Ellie just discovered them, after finishing the entire original series, and she is hooked.
We’ve read a couple of the fact trackers, but I tend to forget about them when we are looking for books because they are in a different section of the library! I’ll have to remember to look for them next time we go! And audiobooks in the car are a lifesaver!

We are here for all the days at the pool! My kids like the I survived series for audio!
Oooh, adding some of those to my holds! Thanks!

It is so incredible how a little bit of independence can give such a big confidence boost for kids!!
