snapshot (snap · shot) noun: an informal photograph

Once upon a time, it was a big deal to have your picture taken. People didn’t walk around with tiny digital cameras in their pockets all day long. The first mass-produced camera was a daguerreotype and in today’s dollars, one of those would cost you approximately $7,000. Even as technology advanced and cameras became less expensive and more attainable, there was still the matter of film: you had to finish the roll, send the film off to be developed, and wait.

Now, we can snap a whole burst of photos in seconds on our phones—access to photography that our ancestors never could have dreamed of. And we can share writing in a more informal way, too. No longer do we need a printing press (or even a publisher), to get our words out into the world.

Snapshot is exactly that: an informal place to share my words. I’m not sure, really, how to classify it: part blog, part newsletter, part conversation in the comments. One day, I might share a poem. Another day you might find my thoughts on motherhood, faith, or creativity. Or a round-up of my favorite things.

This is the main place I’m writing these days, but you can also find me a few other places:

A snapshot is an informal photograph. And this publication is informal too—part blog, part newsletter, part conversation in the comments. You might find me sharing a poem, thoughts on motherhood, faith, or creativity, or a round-up of my favorite things.
