I started off 2025 with plenty of New Year’s energy, ready to set goals and tackle all the things on my to-do list. I picked my word of the year and was full of ideas for creative projects.
Then, about halfway through January, I got sick. I started coughing, and I couldn’t stop. I’m more of a wait-it-out kind of person when it comes to making a doctor’s appointment for myself, but eventually, even I had to admit defeat. One morning, my husband took my kids to school while I waited in the parking lot for Urgent Care to open. The doctor listened to my lungs and pronounced: “Bronchitis.”
The sheet of paper I left with told me that I could be coughing for six weeks, and, well, they weren’t kidding. A month in, and I’m still coughing (though I am—thankfully—slowly improving). Most of the creative projects that had been buzzing in my head have been pushed to the side as I’ve had to use all my energy for the necessities (though I was able to make this small one happen).
This morning, while preparing for our second school-canceled-because-of-snow day this week, I saw a post in the Slack group for The Artist’s Way Creative Cohort, and a feeling that’s been a little lacking lately—inspiration—struck! I scrolled through the snow day photo essay linked below and vowed to take my camera outside to capture my own snow day photos.
When we walked down the snowy street, and snow started to fall again, my six-year-old exclaimed, “Mom, we’re in a snow globe!” And it really did feel like we were in one—a rare experience here in North Carolina!
Do you have any favorite snow day memories or traditions (snow cream is a must in our house)? I’d love to hear about them!
Oh I love that you were able to get some inspiration from our snow day! You captured some great photos and I love the part about being in a snow globe!! I hope you start feeling better soon. This year has been rough so far with all the Illnesses
Love all the pics!! So pretty!
